This blog is one of a group of blogs that I've set up as what I've called, "notebooks". The style I'm using to present posts/thoughts/issues is just that - notebook style, which means no frills, little formality, and a very narrow focus on a very narrow subject.

When I say, "no frills...little formality" I don't mean "as in only-care-if-I-can-read-the-notes". What I mean by that is that posts are "raw material" that I may/may not incorporate into more polished material somewhere else. My aim in creating a blog/"notebook" for each very narrow subject, however, is to present material/thoughts on each subject all in one place so that anyone who comes across one of the blogs will find a number of things (sometimes very specific, sometimes broader, sometimes more in-depth, sometimes just a quick thought) related to the very narrow subject. For the larger context within which any of the "isolated" subjects may relate to any of the others, I'll provide appropriate links to other "notebooks".

What I Mean By "Umbrella" Situation

This is a post I wrote on my main blog, and I think it best describes what I mean by "umbrella situation".


ME Whelan Online Writing And Notes: Of Online Writing And The Science Of Living In A U...: For all the different types of writing I've done (online, offline, for myself, for someone else - whatever), the biggest challenge.

Of course, every person in the world has his own "umbrella"/individual situation.  Some people's may, for one reason or another, be more complex than other people's.  The reason I've established this blog that is devoted just to my own "umbrella situation" is that it ties in with my other "notebook blogs", but also that I don't want my posts on other sites/blogs to be all mixed in with the personal-situation stuff.

On the one hand, the personal-situation stuff serves a purpose for some new things that I will be writing.  On the other hand, I want to keep everything associated with/tied to that stuff separate from my other writing.  I'm not above using personal experience as background for writing.  After all, we often gain insight from personal experience.  Like most people who write, however, I don't want everything I write to be all about stuff/circumstances that are only a part of my life, not necessarily a part of my writing life, and certainly aren't things that I want to define me in general.
